Synopsis: Block unwanted connections (ie. tracking beacons, spyware, ads, etc.) at the source, saving bandwidth and increasing browsing speed. If you're unfamiliar with the hosts file, i highly suggest reading this page. HostsMan streamlines this process by checking for updates, and if any are available, will update the hosts file for you. You have to be careful with the update source.. some are very strict and will block everything. Here's what i have selected.
- As an example... i'll use 180Upload.com. They use a captcha system which is not showing and i suspect it's related to HostsMan.
- First, i tried exclusing 180upload.com, which did not work.
- Next, i completely disabled the hosts file by renaming to hosts.bak then refreshing my browser, and it worked. Great.. now i've narrowed it down.
- Next i right clicked the captcha > Inspect Element > then looked around until i found something that looked liked addresses.
- I had to add api.solvemedia.com and creative.xtendmedia.com as regular expressions, refreshed my browser, and vioula.. it's working :)
- Sometimes.. a simple exclude will work. But others.. you have to track down the element or 3rd party addresses, etc.
